Render property of FQuattro
process
The following work was done in FQuattro, an archviz studio based in Merida, Mexico.
During my time there I took part mostly in the 3D modeling of architecture, furniture, decoration and set dressing. Though I was often involved in making changes to lighting and texturing if necessary.
The process requires an understanding of architectural planning and design in order to recreate the space and mantain realistic measurements, but also keeping in mind the appeal for the camera view. The use of reference and its analysis was essential to complete my tasks.
Getting Started
Floor plans for the space, along with a list of furniture, lamps, fabric, and finishes, are provided by the design company.
The plan is reviewed, and optimized in AutoCAD, and then it is imported into 3dsMAX to begin building the walls, floors, molding, and other structural details.
research & modeling
A list of lights and furniture is usually provided. The manufacturer is then researched to obtain reference images and accurate dimensions.
Next, a library of models is searched for a similar item or a base model to start with. More often than not, modeling is done from scratch, with additional details incorporated from other models.
A Frankenstein chair, if you will.
Set Dressing
Sometimes, clients have specific requests for decor. If not, there is usually a general feel or vibe desired for the space, which is then matched to create a welcoming and livable environment.
Render changes
After receiving feedback from the client, depending on schedule, I would be responsible of making some changes. Working on a file similar to this:
Adjustments are made, such as changing light placements or intensity, adjusting wood shades in Photoshop, and sending render tests using VRay.
